My favorite of these stand tunes is Talkin Out the Side of your Neck. I think it has the most energy, and the crowd will enjoy it if we play it well. In the video, the cheerleaders were doing the dance along with the band which made the crowd start participating as well, and everyone looked like they liked the song. We couldn't see the crowd's reactions in the other two songs, but I think that Neck still probably involved the most people.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of these songs is "Crazy Train". I almost like it better than the original by Ozzy Osbourne because of the featured brass section and the lively beat. Personally, I think that Loyola students will like this song best because it is recognizable, upbeat, and it has a striking introduction. And obviously this one is my favorite because the band has some killer moves.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of these stand tunes is 4 Minutes. I think the Loyola students will enjoy it, as well as the other people who attend football games or any other events. It is a recognizable, upbeat song that can pump up the crowd if we play it the right way.

My favorite song out of the three is "Neck." I like this song because it is very upbeat and unique, whereas the other two are arrangements of popular songs. I think the LA students will really enjoy this song if we get into it and the cheerleaders pump up the crowd.
ReplyDeleteMy Favorite song is Crazy Train!! The excitement and enthusiasm of the band is so infectious!!!! I definitely think that Loyola Academy students will like them because it is a song that everybody knows and can sing along to!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is "Neck." It is by far the sassiest and the brass section rocks. It has that jazzy swingy type of groove and apparently that makes the people listening do that weird wavy hand thing. Plus its an awesome song to play and its really different from our usual stand tunes so i can't wait for us to play it at games. -Julia S.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is "Crazy Train." It has a driving beat and is probably the most well known of the three songs. People really get into it and have fun. And then there's the "Aye Aye Aye" :) John Pasquesi
ReplyDeleteOut of these three songs, my favorite is "Talkin Out the Side of Your Neck". It is straight up funky and I think that if we played it well we could really pump up the crowd and the football players. The people in the video seemed to have a fun time playing it as well, and it'll be very fun during the games. The brass is awesome and powerful, and it'll be a great addition to our stand tunes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song of the three is "Neck" I like it because it has a pounding beat that will pump up the crowd and the players. Even though it is not very well known, it is very fun to play, and we all enjoy playing it and getting into it.
ReplyDeleteDefine a crazy train. Does it have to do with the amount of people on board. Is it the attitude in which the train is moved. Are there colors that make it Crazy. In my opinion the answer to all these questions is no. However I think that the amount of people is yes. I once saw a movie about a train. People make a train a crazy place http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8FQsg12hoY . Crazy as it may be, I dont think that with the numbers we have at THE LOYOLA ACADEMY BAND PROGRAM (caps for emphasis) we can make the sound as good as the marching band above. If we wanted to make it better, we would need a pole, three falcons and duck tape, lots and lots of duck tape. These are just my thoughts I agree with what Anthony said above.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is "Neck." It is a song that is upbeat, and can get the crowd and players pumped up. Not only that, but it can also be played in many different scenarios. It can be played when the football team scores a touchdown or they need a little motivation. The best part is that it is fun to play.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is by far Crazy Train. I like the original song by Ozzy, and the version we play in band has the same energy and power that its Black Sabbath counterpart does. Plus we have Jeremy doing a solo. Nuff said. I think that when we play it during a game the crowd will respond very enthusiastically.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song out of all of these is definitely "Neck". It has a kicking brass part that gives the song a lot of fortitude and attitude. The unique rhythmic structure, coming in on he up-beats, gives the song a really nice groove that the band can get into and enjoy. It's not the most difficult piece, but there are a few chords that really give the piece some interest. Overall, it's a swagger song with a great beat and it will make the crowd get up and dance along with the band.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is 4 Minutes. I think the band will have fun preforming it, and it sounds really cool. Each section has a fun part, and there is balance between all the parts. Since it is a popular song, the crowd will have fun and be very happy and enthusiastic when we play it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is Crazy Train because it is so upbeat. It has a really fun feel which allows you to get involved in the music and which makes it excellent as a stand tune. This is a kind of song the players will wanna get up and run too and the audience will wanna dance to. I think the LA students will enjoy this one especially, and 4 Minutes too, because in my experience it is a lot more fun to jam out to a song if it's one you know.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is "Neck" because it's extremely catchy and I know that the audience, especially the student audience will really have fun with it. Even though it's not a well-known song, it's a really good stand tune because it will keep the crowd pumped and excited throughout the game.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is Neck.I think the crowds can enjoy the beat together. The rhythm is unique and their movement is easy to follow. Also, it's always better to have enthusiasm during the game.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is “Crazy Train.” I think that the song could be a great addition to our show. It is definitely a song that will get a good response if we put a lot of energy and effort into it. While playing at the Freshman Pep Rally, I think the intro of this song got the best reaction out of the crowd. The song not only is identifiable, but provides an opportunity for our band to showcase other aspects of the music. It is the perfect song to get the crowd excited and will be really fun to play.

I think that we can pull this song off if we have as much energy as the band in the video.

I think that others will like this song because this song is very popular and if we play it will as much enthusiasm as the other band did we can hype up the crowd during any point of the game.
ReplyDeletemy favorite was 4 minutes because most people in the crowds at football games know it and i think it would be fun to play while crowds sing along. Also the song would sound great as a marching band song. I think the crowd would like it.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Neck because it has a heavy emphasis on upbeats and a unique rhythem. It isn't as well known and the visuals will be a great feature to get people in the stands involved. It has a very energetic funky groove which will definately get the attention of the players and fans.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is 4 minutes. 4 minutes is my favorite stand tune because it's a blast to play, and I think that the crowd, players, and band members will enjoy listening to it. It also helps that it is a recognizable song. Most people will know what it is which is always a good thing. Also, 4 minutes is really fun to play on the sax!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is Crazy Train. It's a popular song that will pump up the crowd from the beginning. The introduction with the brass part and the aye aye aye will capture the students' attention right away. It has a great beat and is also very fun to play when the band puts a lot of energy and effort into the music.
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorite is Neck because it's a fun song and I feel like the crowd will be able to get in a groove and dance around. I also think that the band could have a lot of fun with this one.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go about this by using none other than the fail-safe method of process of elimination. Now let's look at these songs from the standpoint that Loyola wants to be identified with a positive image and that the Marching Band is a very large part of that image. Now let's begin with "Crazy Train." The title itself is a little unsettling. I mean what are they doing on this "crazy train"? Shrooms?! I digress though. Let's look at the lyrics. "I'm going off the rails on a crazy train." WOAH. I mean this line is very suggestive. I'm not even going to mention the fact that a derailed train is going to kill many, many people, but the fact that it can be interpreted as suggesting some pretty hardcore drugs or even suicide means that this song is clearly not one that I as a Loyola Rambler would want to associate myself with. Now let's move on to "Neck." Now I'm just going to casually mention that these guys must have been on all sorts of stuff in order for them to think it was a good idea for them to name a song "Talkin' Out of the Side of Your Neck." What does that even MEAN?! Maybe the lyrics will save this song. Now pretty early on we get to the part where they say "We sit down while you cuss and fuss." Now Loyola NEVER wants to be associated with something as despicable as "cuss"ing. The rest of the song is tolerable until you get to the part where they say "Cligdi, cling die? Clindi? Hosh posh? Clinge ding? Cling me die ? Clinge ding? Horns? Hoshpsh?" What? I can't even begin to think of what this guy was on that he just started babbling this nonsense. So this song is a definite no-no. Now we get to "4 Minutes. Now this looks like a song that has potential! What could be happening in these 4 minutes? And as we listen to the song we learn that we have 4 minutes to save the world! How much more awesome could it get?! So this is the right song for us.
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness though I like Crazy Train. It's a pretty popular song that is pretty much the brass just melting faces. Also I can play it without popping a blood vessel unlike "Neck."
My favorite new stand tune is Neck. It is such a fun and groovy song to play. I enjoy the when the brass play it. It is a good pump up song that pumps up the band members, so it will definitely pump up the crowd and players.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is "Crazy Train" I think it is a very energetic song that i really enjoy! I am sure a lot of loyola students would like this because it would pump everyone up during the football games.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is "4 Minutes." I find it to be a blood-pumping song. I feel like the students at The Academy will enjoy the song since it is a song from our time. When students hear 4 Minutes they will probably be reminded of a good memory or car rides with their friends while they jammed out to this song.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite new stand tune is Neck. The band seems to have so much fun while playing it and the visuals make it even more exciting. With its catchy rhythem and groove, everyone in the stands will want to dance along.
ReplyDeleteI think the best stand tune is Crazy Train, because it's very recognizable and the crowd will love it. It's a fun song and, personally, I think it is the best option. The Loyola students will definitely like it because it's a lot of fun to play and the song will get them energized and excited, which is the main purpose of the band. The song is fun and upbeat -- perfect for a marching band.
ReplyDeleteOf the three stand tunes, my favorite is Talking Out the Side of your Neck, or "Neck." Of the three, Neck has the strongest beat. However, I probably speak for many trumpet players when I say that the range and rhythm are, at times, intimidating, but I think that they are the best part of the piece, as they give it its "catchy" feel. Perhaps the most important aspect of a stand tune is its ability to involved the audience, and, in the video, the football fans are clearly seen enjoying and participating in the music. Overall, I think Neck would be the best addition to our stand tunes for this marching season.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is 4 Minutes because its upbeat, brings energy, and its popular. all the students will know it and be able to sing along with and get involved, and its fun to play.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune was Neck. I believe that the most interesting part of Neck was the drum players motions. Being a drummer, I thought this looked very cool and exciting. I think that the Loyola students would enjoy Neck, because it gets everybody involved with the hand motions. The hand motions can get the crowd and even the players included.
ReplyDeleteI think the best of these Stand Tunes Songs is the Song Crazy Train. I think this because it is a very energetic song that i am positive the crowd will enjoy as well as recognize. I also think the students of Loyola Academy will enjoy this because it will pump them up at the football games and encourage them to cheer the team on more!
ReplyDeleteOut of these three stand tunes, I really enjoy both "Crazy Train" and "4 Minutes." While "Crazy Train" is an older song from the 1980's, "4 Minutes" is a newer, more recently popular song. They're both very upbeat songs, and since they're also both very well-known, I feel that Loyola Academy will also enjoy listening to them. These songs are fun and energetic to play and listen to, especially if we give it our all and show them our school spirit!
ReplyDeleteOut of these three stand tunes, I like "4 Minutes" the most. I think a lot of people will enjoy it because it is an upbeat song, and it is a popular song, so a lot of people will recognize it and become more excited.
ReplyDeleteOut of these 3 tunes I think that "Crazy Train" will be the best song. It is the most recognizable of the 3 songs. Most people will enjoy this the most.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is Crazy Train. It's a great song that everyone knows and will get the crowd excited. It's also my favorite to play. The brass section and the beat will grab the crowd from the start. I think it has a lot more energy than the other two songs.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite was Crazy Train because it was far more interesting to watch and the tune was very distinct and defined. All of the tunes were preformed well but Crazy Train just stood out as better.
ReplyDeleteI think Crazy Train was by far the best stand tune. Though I think part of it had to do with the way the song was presented in this video, it is a crowd favorite and it is well known. It is the most fun to play, and the life and energy of this particular song will really get the crowd excited and cheering.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Neck because it has this laid back feel but at the same time it has intensity. It is song that all the fans can get into because it has a groove to it and the fans can get into the visuals if executed well.
ReplyDeleteOut of the comments so far, note well John Dombrowski. While his post has quite a sarcastic tone he has gone above and beyond the assignment by doing some outside work and listening to the lyrics. He also takes the time to compare and contrast all of the tunes. While many of you will get full credit if you post this time around keep John Dombrowski's post as an example of how you can get an A on future blog posts/band reflections. Try to find something that makes your post unique and stand out.
ReplyDeleteAlso Bobby Murphy's post stands out to me.
ReplyDeleteLara Antonello
ReplyDeleteSomething that people often froget about music is that it is supposed to be fun. I think that we get to do just that with talking out the side of your neck. We get to dance around and take a whole new apporoach to the song that we havent really ever done before. I think that if the whole band commits to having fun with this song that the student body really will love it because we will appeal to them. Its nice to play a song with so much energy and with a fun part to play. I think it will sound amazing once we are more comfortable with the song and playing it.
and for the record i couldnt post this without using my aim account so im sorry if it says "watz crackin" haha
My favorite stand tune is definitely "Neck," even though, like John said, I feel like I'm going to pop a blood vessel when I play it. When I first heard the title "Talkin' out the side of your Neck" I wasn't sure what to expect of the song- I had never heard it before and the name was just kind of...weird. It made me imagine someone who has a hole in the side of their neck they can talk through. Anyways, when I actually heard the song being played I realized how much I liked it. Sometimes I think that people in the stands have never heard the songs that we play on the field or can't recognize them when they hear them. I think "Neck" is a great stand tune because it doesn't matter if you've never heard the song before or know what it's called, because the beat and rhythm of the song is so catchy that it just makes you want to dance. Even though I don't love playing "Neck," I think that everyone in Loyola's stands will love listening to it.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lara! Music is supposed to be fun- or at least marching band should be. This past week my go to marching band song has been "Dynamite" by Notre Dame marching band. Watch that video and tell me you don't want to dance. Or sing. That is the job of the marching band, to involve the audience. Neck was by far the best- They had their dances and gang signs and all this crazy stuff that just made it a joy to watch. The fact that they were having fun obviously made the audience get on their feet. 4 Minutes was just bad, we could do better. As for Crazy Train, the band had some cool ideas, but I don't think any of us besides Lara are cut out for leap frog dancing. Trust me, if I could I would. As for our band, we should choreograph little dances that we can do in the stands and just learn to have fun with our music. Perhaps Lara can give us some dance lessons? Maybe instead of having band class in the band room we could sneak over to room 69. If any of us have learned anything from this assignment, it should be that we need to start having fun with the music. If we don't, then who will? -Pat Sammon
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is talking out of the side of your neck. My favorite part of this song is the groove. The other songs are cool but Neck really has a better groove than the other songs. This song was almost made for a marchingband because it gets everyone pumped up.
ReplyDeletep.s. the tuba part is not lame
Your posts are due by 11:59 PM tonight!
ReplyDeleteI feel like Talking out the side of your neck would be more appreciated at loyola. It hypes everyone up for the football games and pep rallys. It's also my favorite new stand tune. It has this certain feel to it that makes you want to start jumping and nodding your head along with the beat.

ReplyDeleteI personally enjoyed the song "4 Minutes" by Justin Timberlake feat. Madonna. In fact, I enjoyed the song to such a great extent that I often sing it in my shower.
ReplyDeleteWith Great Regards,
Esq. Nicholas Gordon Bruns
I enjoyed the first one the most,"Four Minutes" this was because of the synchronized movements the marching band pulled off. It showed amazing hard work that these players put into performing those movements. I was impressed and I hope that our band is able to do as well. Yes, I think the students will enjoy them. Hopefully it will give us all something to aim for when we play in marching band. I think that this was a good video to watch.
ReplyDeleteI definitely "4 Minutes" would be great for the Loyola Marching Band. It's a very recognizable song. The crowd would definitely get more hyped by hearing it. It seems easy, yet enjoyable for the band to play. It can be played at any time during the games.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, "Neck" definitely brings the most to the table in terms of "swag", which is exactly what we need at home football games. I would be very pleased if everyone in the band could go all out when we play it at games, and actually stand up and move to it. This would really get the crowd going, which would in turn give the team a great confidence boost.

ReplyDeleteI like "4 minutes" and "Neck" they will make the fans go nuts. I hope
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, "Neck" will be the most entertaining of the three stand tunes. It has a different kind of beat that will definitely make the crowd and band very excited about the game. The actual music itself is not as difficult as the others so the band can focus on setting the groove instead of only the technical playing. This song will be great for any part of the games.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is Neck because it pumps everyone up and it so much fun to play. Although for the trumpets it is very challenging and some of the other songs are a little bit easier. In all honesty it was a very hard decision because these are all great songs
ReplyDeleteJustyna Kaluzny
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song out of the three was Crazy Train. It has a great beat and it will keep the audience alive. I think that Crazy Train is a song that is suitable for marching band. I am sure that everyone will enjoy it. The way the band played it, it seems that the song has alot of energy and must be fun to play.
I think that "Neck" is my favorite song because it has some serious groove to it. All of our stand tunes have driving beats but this one is different which is why I like it. I think the Rambler community at games could really get into this tune. With it's cool beat and fun energy, it is a really fun tune.
ReplyDeleteJames McHale
ReplyDeleteNeck is good song. It's catchy and quite groovy. When I listen to the original and compare it with this one, you can see their obvious similarities. It's fun and I believe that it can easily get popular with the crowd...
My favorite song was Crazy Train. I liked it,because it was fun and upbeat with its iy,iy,iys here and there! But then i personally think that 4 minutes is a better song for the crowd to get them going, because they will actually know the song if we can get the beat down the right way.
ReplyDeleteMy personal favorite is "Crazy Train" it is a very well known song espesially for Ozzy Osbourne fans! I really enjoy playing this song and I think the crowd will enjoy listening to it. It was a very hard choice because all of these songs are great, but to me "Crazy Train" stands out as my personal favorite.
ReplyDeleteim sorry my comment took so long to publish I forgot my google account password
ReplyDeleteOut of all the following stand tunes, my favorite song in this selection is "4 Minutes." The reason being is because it is a very popular piece of music. I believe the students at Loyola Academy will highly find this piece much to their enjoyment. In my opinion, the song interests me the most because the genre of the song is hip-hop. Being a hip-hop dancer, it is easier for me to incorporate myself into this piece. Playing a piece which the student body enjoys will give off more than enough energy to cheer on for the football team.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite song is probably Crazy Train. It is extremely upbeat and is just and awesome song in general. It is (as anyone can see) a song that you kind of have to just get up and start dancing to. Plus, it seems that most of the sections have pretty cool parts, so its fun for everyone to play. Many people know the song so I think most of the Loyola students will have fun with song. This song will easily add an enormous amout of energy to any crowd at the football games. -Clarice Swanson
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, my favorite song is "Neck." The song rocks, and the band in the video seems to be having a lot of fun playing it. I think that the audience would much appreciate it if we played this song. I know that if I were in the audience, I would want the band to play this song.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that my favorite stand tune is "Neck" because it is very upbeat and gets everyone in the stands to stand up and dance. I actually really like this song and think that it's pretty fun to play. If we played it like how they did in the video, then it would look and sound amazing because the song would get people to stop sitting in the football games, and maybe get up and dance like in the video.
ReplyDeleteI think that the one stand tune that would appeal to the crowds of Loyola would be Crazy Train. It is a very upbeat song that is popular and easy to recognize when played by our band. I would originally say that 4 Minutes would be the the best choice, but the melody sounds different to me when the band plays it. This is my opinion. There seems to be something missing in that piece that does not make it sound the same as the original. Anyways, I think Crazy Train will really pump up these crowds at the football field and hope the expectation is met.
ReplyDeleteOut of all the songs posted I like crazy train the most. The reason why I like this the most is because I believe it represents the band the best. 1.) It shows the energy that the band has. 2.) In the video the players were doing many differnt kinds of organized stunts which we as a band also do. 3.) It represents the Loyola spirit in energy, stunts, crazziness, and having fun. Thats why I think crazy train is the best.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, "4 Minutes" is our best stand tune because it is not only a recognizable tune, but will also get the students, fans and football team excited. We can also learn some extremely precise marching techniques by watching USC's marching. Everyone is instep and always facing forward(when they are supposed to be). We should make this the goal of the marching band to be more precise and confident with our spots on the field.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Crazy Train is the best stand tune. It is the most recognizable tune out of the three, so the fans will most likely hear it and maybe even want to dance along. In the video the band playing it plays it with a lot of energy, energy I think that the Loyola Marching band can bring to make this a fun tune to play and listen to.
ReplyDeleteI like Crazy Train because of the energy the band has and how they influence the crowd. Sometimes it feels like we lack energy and emotion in our stand tunes.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune out of the three was “Talking Out of the Side of Your Neck.” It is the most energetic and active tune there is. As for Crazy Train, you can't really do the crazy moves as they did in the video. I also like “Neck” because it is a catchy song which gets stuck in my head every time we play it. The students at Loyola Academy would love this song because the movements and the rhythm balance each other out. Therefore, "Neck" is the better choice.
ReplyDeleteStill a handful of you need to post for the blog you have until 11:59 PM to blog or email me.
ReplyDeleteThe stand tune that probably go over the best is Crazy Train. People know it, and its easy enough that Mr. John Dombrowski can ensure that even the other team is able to sing along.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I think Crazy Train because it's a recognizable song and it is very upbeat. I feel it will pump up the crowd.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to go with Crazy Train as my favorite. The chorus will surely have the crowd going. Crazy Train also seems to be the most suitable choice seeing as it isn't practically entirely repetitive like the other songs.
ReplyDeleteIm going to say that crazy train was my favorite. This song is an orignal and everyone knows it. Since theye know it they will be surprised that we can actually play it. This song will really get the crowd going
ReplyDeleteMy favorite stand tune is "Crazy Train".
ReplyDeleteI think the best one out of these selections would be "4 Minutes." Not because of the musical quality, but because the listeners would be more likely to recognize this song because it is more contemporary than the other options, and more popular. This would probably make the audience enjoy and participate in the performance
ReplyDeleteI think the best performance by far is "Crazy Train." This has the most energy, a loud beat, and the crowd seemed to be in it with. I think just about everyone at Loyola would like this because its a popular song and its a great beat.
ReplyDelete
